Amazon.co.uk Review
Salt Lake City 2002 is the official game of the first Winter Olympics of the 21st century. The graphics and sound are fantastic; each event and venue are beautifully created and do help immerse you into the game. The downside, however, is the lack of events--six in total. This will leave you feeling a little short-changed, as many great events have been left out--there's no curling, luge, speed-skating, biathlon or ice hockey, and some of these would have been easy to re-create.

However, there are some great gaming moments in the featured events. The Downhill is by far the best and makes you wonder why the games industry chucks out innumerable snowboard games when this works so well; the "skier's eye view" camera angle is excellent--make sure you tuck those arms in! The Slalom and Snowboarding events are very similar, although a much slower race, the emphasis being on accuracy rather than speed. The Bobsleigh is great, though you'll be a lucky gamer if you finish the course. The two disappointments are the Ski Jump and Freestyle events, which look great but tend to leave you wondering what you actually did to win the gold.

Overall, we were impressed with the skiing events but feel that this is a wasted opportunity for what could have been a superb game; we can only hope that the official game of Torino 2006 on the PS3 will be better!-- Laurent S Hall
